  • 9-Inch Loaf Pan or French Bread Pan (12-inch by 4 1/2-inch)
  • Spray Oil or Shortening
  • Wire Rack
  • Toothpicks

Ingredients

Bread Dough

  • 1 Box/Bag Inspiration Bakery and Mixes Pizza Crust Mix
  • 1 1/3 Cups Water (warm)
  • 3 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Active Dry Yeast or 2 Packets Rapid Rise Yeast
  • 3 Egg Whites
  • 1 Whole Egg
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Seasoning Option: Italian seasonings blend, herbs de provence, or garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons Applesauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup or 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract

Egg Wash Option

  • 1 Egg White
  • 1 Tablespoon Water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200° F and then turn it off 5-10 minutes before you put your bread in it to start its' rise (it just needs to be warm to proof the dough)
  • Grease your 9-inch loaf pan (or 12-inch by 4 1/2-inch loaf pan) with spray oil or other oil
  • Use your wire whisk to blend together yeast, baking powder, herbs (if any), and Inspiration Bakery and Mixes Pizza Crust Mix and then set the blend aside
  • In your saucepan, heat the oil, water, and sugar on low until the sugar dissolves and set the mixture aside. The temperature should not rise above 120° F (use your thermometer to check)
  • For best results, use a stand mixer with its' bowl. Lightly whip together the eggs, apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract or maple syrup, and applesauce for about 30 seconds. Add the cooled water, oil, and sugar mixture and mix on medium for about 2 minutes
  • Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and blend together on low for about 30 seconds. Scrape the bowl to make sure all the ingredients are combined and then blend on medium-high for 2 minutes, pausing the mixer long enough to scrape the bowl at least one more time
  • Spoon our pour the Chewy French Bread dough into your greased or oiled loaf pan or a French bread pan
  • Put your pan in the oven uncovered for 20-30 minutes, until the dough has doubled in size (20-30 minutes)
  • Baguettes option: put your dough into a 1-gallon plastic storage bag and cut an end corner off to make an opening about 1/2 the width of your loaf pan. Gently squeeze the plastic bag to extrude dough down the middle of the loaf pan. You may need more than one pan to use up all the dough making baguettes
  • Remove the pan with your Chewy French Bread from the oven
  • Preheat your oven to 400° F
  • If you are using egg wash (omit if egg-free), brush the wash across the top of the dough. If egg-free, use plain oil.
  • Once your oven reaches 400° F, put your loaf pan in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. Bake time depends on which kind of pan you use
  • Towards the end of the bake time, insert a toothpick into the center of the bread to make sure it's not doughy (the toothpick should come out clean)
  • Remove your Chewy French Bread or Baguettes from the oven and put the pan on a wire rack for about 10 minutes. Remove the bread from your pan and let it continue to cool completely, for about 30 minutes, before slicing
